Great Pretender - S01

Makoto Edamura’s life has taken a rough turn, forcing him into a world of petty crime-pickpocketing and scamming to get by. But when he tries to swindle a naive-looking tourist, the tables turn: Makoto realizes he’s been outsmarted, and now the police are hot on his trail. During his escape, he crosses paths with the tourist again, who reveals himself as Laurent Thierry, a seasoned con artist. Drawn into Laurent’s orbit, Makoto ends up in Los Angeles, eager to prove he’s still "Japan’s Greatest Swindler" by challenging his rival to a contest of skill. Laurent accepts, leading them to the doorstep of a massive mansion-home to the West Coast’s most powerful mafia boss, their latest target. As Makoto gets deeper into Laurent’s world of elaborate schemes and eccentric allies, he finds himself in over his head. What started as a competition pushes his confidence-and his self-proclaimed talent-to its limits.
