Grandma and Her Ghosts

The seventh month of the Chinese lunar calendar is known as ghost month. On the first day of the month, when the spirit gate opens, DouDou goes to stay with his grandmother. She performs Taoist rituals for the dead and speaks with ghosts. One day, DouDou accidentally releases a devil from an urn. The devil takes over a lazy house cat and tells DouDou that rubbing his grandmother’s tears on his eyelids will let him see invisible friends. What DouDou doesn’t realize is that the devil plans to devour all the ghosts. "Grandma And Her Ghosts" captures the feel of Hayao Miyazaki’s work, like "My Neighbour Totoro," while staying deeply rooted in Taiwanese culture.
