Horiguchi Genki was a five-year-old boy whose mother died when he was born, leaving him to be raised solely by his father. His father, Shark Horiguchi, had once been a professional boxer but had fallen into obscurity, reduced to fighting in small venues. Still, Genki believed his father was strong and destined to become a champion, and he dreamed of following in his footsteps. After his father’s death, Genki was taken in by his grandparents, who disapproved of his boxing ambitions. But he was determined to pursue the sport and trained in secret. Along the way, he met people who shaped his journey-like Ashikiwa, a teacher who reminded him of his mother, and Mishima, a high school boxing champion. Through these encounters, Genki forged his path as a boxer.
