After a meteor strikes Earth, rebel forces seize control, leaving the population in misery. Amid the turmoil, a boy named Tetsuro Daiba-who lost his parents in the disaster-is visited by a mysterious woman named Mello, who appears in a blinding light. When Daiba wakes up, he’s in a spaceship infirmary under surveillance. He steals a fighter jet he shouldn’t know how to fly-yet somehow does, escaping with expert skill. His ability comes from buried DNA memories. To uncover the truth, his doctor friend leads him to a hidden underground lab, where they research ways to overthrow the rebel regime. When enemy forces storm the lab to reclaim him, a girl named Rei Yuuki single-handedly destroys their entire carrier with just a fighter jet. Both possess strange powers the enemy covets, possibly linked to being the only known survivors of the meteor strike. While searching for a third survivor-who turns out to be a telepathic cat-the two are captured by Queen Photon, leader of the rebels. She insists she’s actually trying to save Earth from the true culprits behind the meteor. Unsure whether to trust her or Mello, the pair (and the cat) escape her locked chamber with the cat’s help, just as Mello arrives to clarify the truth. Now they face a choice: remain on a dying planet unfit for their evolved kind, or venture into the vast unknown of space.
