Ten years ago, a volcanic eruption nearly destroyed Japan’s Ayaka Islands. Since then, Yukito Yanagi has lived with foster families on the mainland, keeping to himself after a troubling incident. On the day of his middle school graduation, Yukito returns to his birthplace at the request of his late father, Makoto. There, he meets Makoto’s disciples and learns about the islands’ supernatural nature. Strange beings called Mitama live there, but their ability to feed on human negativity and transform into violent monsters-known as Ara-Mitama-poses a constant threat to the islanders. Yukito soon realizes he, like his father, is a Ley Master-someone with magic-like abilities meant to calm the Ara-Mitama. As he works through his past trauma and learns to harness his powers, Yukito resolves to become a skilled Ley Master and uphold his father’s legacy, protecting the peace of Ayaka.
