Appare Sorrano is a brilliant but socially awkward inventor living in a small Japanese village in the late 1800s. Since childhood, he has been obsessed with building machines-especially steamships-that can bridge vast distances. He dreams of sailing across the ocean, beyond the sky, and even reaching the moon. But after a series of mishaps, Appare ends up adrift at sea in his tiny homemade steamship, accompanied by Kosame Ishikki, a skilled but timid samurai assigned to keep his eccentricity under control. Just as they resign themselves to their fate, a passing steamship rescues them and brings them to Los Angeles. Broke and directionless, they enter the "Trans-America Wild Race"-Appare sees it as a chance to build his own car, while Kosame hopes to win the prize money and return home. Yet with fierce competitors and untamed dangers ahead, how far will this unlikely duo go on their unpredictable journey?
