Akane-banashi

Akane Ousaki grew up watching her father, Tooru, perform rakugo-a traditional style of Japanese comedic storytelling. Rakugo performers are ranked into three tiers, with the highest level, "shinuchi," reserved only for those who pass a grueling promotion exam. During Tooru's test, Akane witnesses him deliver a brilliant performance before a large audience and panel of judges. Yet the lead judge, Isshou Arakawa, fails him anyway, crushing Tooru's dreams and forcing him to quit rakugo. Determined to carry on her father's legacy, Akane dedicates herself to mastering rakugo. Now in her final year of high school, she unexpectedly gets a chance to perform in front of an audience, thanks to Shiguma Arakawa-Tooru's former mentor. Her stunning performance leaves everyone in awe, and Shiguma takes her on as his apprentice. With his guidance, Akane begins her journey to achieve the rank of shinuchi, stepping into the role her father was denied.
