In the 21st century, Earth became uninhabitable, forcing humanity to migrate en masse to Planet Zi, home to the metallic life forms called Zoids. Years later, Zi itself nears collapse, and its inhabitants embark on a journey back to Earth. Hoping to restore the planet, they launch the "Zi-Forming" project-but the plan fails, leaving Earth a chaotic wasteland. Overrun by Zoids and plagued by erratic weather, the returning migrants struggle to survive. The rival Empire and Republic factions now scour the planet for buried Zoids to strengthen their forces. The story follows Leo Conrad and Buzz Cunningham, second-generation Earth settlers, whose lives change when they cross paths with Sally Land, a girl fleeing the Empire's grasp.
