The year is 2201. The Yamato has just returned from its fierce battle against Emperor Zordar and the Comet Empire. Sanada, Aihara, and Shima, now discharged from the hospital, visit Okita’s memorial to honor their fallen comrades. There, they meet Tasuke, Tokugawa’s son, who announces his plans to join the Yamato’s crew after graduating from cadet school. At his graduation the next day, Tasuke and his fellow cadets are so distracted by the sight of the Yamato that their boat capsizes. The Yamato’s departure is delayed when the inexperienced engine crew accidentally stalls the ship by flipping the wrong switches. Despite the rocky start, the crew sets off on what should have been a routine training mission.
