In 2035, an event called "The Burst" takes place at a Japanese research facility, unleashing a fast-spreading, self-replicating substance known as "Matter." As it consumes everything in its path, the hostile entity spreads through the ruins of dams and military sites in the Kurobe Gorge. Task forces fight to stop it from reaching the ocean, while mercenaries search for answers about its origin. Aiko Tachibana, rescued from the Matter, lives under close medical watch. She passes the time folding paper planes while waiting to recover. Her quiet school routine is disrupted when transfer student Yuuya Kanzaki arrives and questions strange details about her-why she never gets hurt and no longer needs her wheelchair. He insists she’s hiding more than she knows and that she alone can stop The Burst. With multiple groups now hunting Aiko, she and Yuuya must find allies and journey into the heart of the infested gorge before they’re trapped. To survive the conspiracy closing in, they’ll have to confront the Matter-an enemy as fluid as water.
